Commission postpones four public meetings because of weather

Meeting in Morehead City to replace buoy remains on schedule

Due to anticipated inclement weather across North Carolina, a handful of public meetings scheduled for discussion of fishery and wildlife issues have been postponed, but a meeting to discuss the replacement of an important buoy off Wrightsville Beach will remain on schedule for Tuesday night.

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has postponed four meetings and rescheduled two. A meeting at the Foothills Higher Education Center in Morganton to discuss a plan for management of the Pisgah Game Land has been postponed from Tuesday to Friday night; a meeting at Merchant’s Millpond State Park to discuss management of the Chowan Swamp and Chowan Game Land scheduled for Tuesday night has been postponed until Feb. 24, and meetings on a proposed shooting range on the Linville Tract and a meeting to discuss management on the Goose Creek Game Land scheduled for Thursday have been postponed and not rescheduled.

A meeting to discuss the possible replacement for a buoy off Wrightsville Beach is still scheduled for tonight at 7 at the N.C. State Center for Marine and Science Technology in Morehead City.

UNC-Wilmington’s Coastal Ocean Research and Monitoring Program, in conjunction with local area marine interests, have a proposal to replace buoy 41036 in Onslow Bay. Supporters of replacing the buoy believe it is worthwhile because of real-time weather information it provides, as well as information for weather forecasters.
