Malinowski buck tapes out at more than 165 inches Pope & Young, according to N.C. Bowhunters Association.
A 16-point buck arrowed in Orange County in September is the officially second-largest ever taken by a bowhunter in North Carolina.
Ramon Bell and Joey Thompson, the president and chief scorer, respectively, from the North Carolina Bowhunters Association, laid the tape on a huge buck killed by Doug Malinowski on Sept. 27, after the Pope & Young Club’s required 60-day drying period.
According to their calculations, the buck’s rack totaled 165 7/8 net typical inches.
That sum places it as the state’s new No. 2 typical archery kill.
Its non-typical score also places it second in that category, but by rule, Malinowski will hold only one place in the records of the Wake County Wildlife Club and Dixie Deer Classic.
The buck will be entered as a typical because its score is better compared to the Pope & Young minimum than its non-typical score.

The rack has only a 14-inch inside spread, but its brow tines measure 6 3/4 and 7 1/8 inches. It has two tines greater than 11 inches long, one 1/8 inch short of 11 inches and one 9 5/8 inches long.
