Five-year-old Penelope Turley headed to the dove field in Staley, NC on Sept. 5, 2026, the opening day of dove season in North Carolina. She was tagging along with family members, and had a great day.
“We hunted on opening day. Penelope didn’t shoot this year, but she was involved in every bit of it, from looking for birds, yelling ‘low bird,’ handing me shells, picking up spent shells, picking up birds, and even breasting out the dove,” said her mom, Tiffany Turley. “I am so proud of her.”
