Cayson Shannon of Summerville, SC killed an 8-point buck in Colleton County, SC on Aug. 22, 2026.
He shot the buck with a .410 Mossberg Bantam during a morning hunt while sitting on the ground from 20 yards away.
Two weeks after Cayson had his 7th birthday, he took down not only his FIRST deer, but also a buck of a lifetime.
On the early foggy morning of August 22nd, the hounds were turned loose at The Ridge Hunting Club, in Smoaks, SC. It didn’t take long before the hounds were running big bucks all over the woods. Shots were going off from all different ends of the woods.
As Cayson stood beside his father anxiously waiting for his big moment, he heard the bushes shaking.. Out came this 190lb 8pt Buck!
The buck was running diagonally away from him. Cayson took two shots out of the .410 Mossberg Pump! One of his pellets hit right behind the ribs at an angle going forward into the lungs. The buck ended up in the creek down by the next hunter on his last few breaths. The deer was ethically put down with one final blow.
