Krystal Harris kills first turkey

first turkey

Turkey was killed in Richmond County, NC

There’s something special about being out in the woods when everything is still and quiet-just waiting and listening.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, in Richmond County, North Carolina, during my very first hunting season, I was able to experience that in a whole new way. After the turkey was called using a mouth call, we heard a gobble way off in the distance. Rather quickly, it worked its way closer, each sound building a little more anticipation.

When the turkey finally came into view, it was in full strut-feathers fanned, putting on a beautiful display, and making that deep drumming sound you feel just as much as you hear. A hen followed right behind, making the moment even more surreal.

My heart was racing, but I stayed steady, and I was able to take my first turkey with my .410.

I’m incredibly thankful for the experience, the patience it took to get there, and the opportunity to be out there. Definitely a memory I’ll hold onto.

God’s creation never disappoints.
