A Good Friday Turkey!

Opening morning of turkey season in the Upstate of South Carolina, we headed out. A beautiful Good Friday morning, a few showers in the forecast, but thankfully never rained. The weather was perfect. We got there and got set up, and they were already gobbling on the roost. Finally sunrise came up, and they seemed to get quiet. We hit the calls a few times, they responded. But then they got quiet. We decided to sit quietly for a little while calling here and there. Finally we hear a gobble. About 150 yards, here comes a long beard across the field. So I’m watching him, he seems interested, but doesn’t seem to want to come in. Then all of a sudden (probably about 50 yards from me), I hear a turkey gobble, and boy did that get my heart to racing! So I got my gun ready and got in position. We hit the calls a few more times and they came in HOT! And well, the rest is history. A memorable hunt for sure, and that’s the main thing. I was blessed to be able to take this beautiful bird, and even more blessed to be able to carry the memories of this hunt with me the rest of my life. That’s the best part of hunting!
