SCDNR

The SCDNR issued this news release during March 2026:

“On March 12, 2026, the SCDNR Law Enforcement Division terminated an officer, First Sergeant Stephen Bryant, assigned to Region 3, following an internal investigation that identified violations of agency policy and conduct unbecoming. Our officers are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and honesty and to follow the standards established by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Violations of these standards will not be tolerated.”

Region 3, where Bryant worked, includes Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun, Clarendon, Lextington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda and Sumter counties.

During his time with SCDNR, Bryant received numerous awards, but reports from the public and from anonymous sources inside SCDNR say he lied on case reports numerous times, and ordered junior officers to lie as well.
