Dock fishing tips from Capt. Ben Powers
Fishing under docks can spell trouble for anglers not accustomed to fishing in tight quarters. A lot can go wrong, from errant casts that hang your hooks into the dock’s wood, to having a fish bite and wrap you around a piling, breaking your line.
Capt. Ben Powers of Reel Time Charters in Folly Beach said despite the potential negatives that go along with fishing these structures, the potential rewards are definitely worth the risks.
“Lots of redfish, trout, flounder, and sheepshead, and even black drum hang out around these docks, and as long as you’re careful, you can catch plenty of fish. You might get hung up a time or two, but it’s worth it once you get into some quality fish,” said Powers.
