Coronavirus outbreak halts archery state championship

The SCDNR has canceled the SC Archery in the Schools Program State Championship, slated for March 24 – 26 at the Sumter Civic Center due to the COVID-19/coronavirus outbreak.

The organization issued the following statement on their decision:

We regret to inform everyone after careful consideration we are canceling the SC Archery in the Schools Program State Championship scheduled for March 24-26, 2020 at the Sumter Civic Center due to Coronavirus/COVID-19. The safety and health of our students is of the utmost concern and this decision was not made lightly. We are having open discussions at SCDNR and speaking with National NASP on how to validate teams wishing to go on to the National Championship. In addition we are exploring all options. We ask for your patience and please refrain from calling our offices. We will update you as soon as we have more information next week.

The cancelation has big implications, especially for senior archers who were set to participate in the championship. College scholarships are awarded to some of the competitors based on their performance at this tournament. The SCDNR is looking at alternative ways to award these scholarships, and hopes to make an announcement about solutions next week.
