South Carolina duck particulars

A lot of late-season ducks are killed later in the day by hunters who locate big, open-water areas where ducks are resting after finishing their early morning feeding periods.

The second and longest segment of South Carolina’s duck season began Dec. 12 and runs through Jan. 31. Hunting is legal between 30 minutes before sunrise and sunset.

The daily bag limit of six ducks can include no more than four mallards (two hens), two pintails,  one fulvous whistling duck, one black-bellied whistling duck, three wood ducks, two redheads, two canvasbacks, two scaup, and one black duck or one mottled duck.

Two federal youth days will be Feb. 6 and Feb. 13. Only hunters 15 or younger may hunt waterfowl on these days. They must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years old, who is not allowed to carry and does not have to be licensed.
