Simmons, Robinson win NorthCarolinaSportsman.com turkey contests

NorthCarolinaSportsman.com users crowned Wil Simmons and Tony Robinson the winners of the 2010 turkey photo and video contest, and the hunters will be mailed Official Sportsman Gear and Primos Hunting Calls prize packs.

Simmons, a.k.a. “simmons1,” took the honors in the photo category with an image of the two toms he and son Chad killed on an evening hunt. He received 593 votes, or 77 percent of the total.

In second was Tony Robinson’s “Going Home.” Robinson, known as “TR” on the site, received 141 votes (18 percent). In third was “Daughter’s First Turkey” by Christopher Green (a.k.a. “split decision”), who garnered 37 votes (5 percent).

Robinson easily overcame the competition in the video category with his “Bills Turkey” vid, which depicts an avid hunter who had recently become physically challenged renewing his love with a North Carolina Handicapped Sportsmen hunt this season. Robinson’s touching video received 296 views (30 percent of the 995 votes cast).

Randy Waibel (rswaibel on the site) came in second with his “2010 Youth Opener – What fun!” which earned 153 views or 15 percent of the votes. In third with 84 views or 8 percent, was Joey Henn (a.k.a. “hennjoey”) with his “Merriem Tom and Hen.”

Moving into fourth was Tim Bullock (“NOBULLCUSTOMCALLS”) with “Turkey Zilla, and Kurt Waibel’s “Youth Hunt – My First Bow Hunt for a Gobbler” wrapped up the top five.
