NCWRC, NWTF offering free turkey hunting seminars

The NCWRC and NWTF are teaming up to offer turkey hunting seminars across N.C. in March.

Seminars will be held in March

With deer and duck seasons behind us, North Carolina hunters are looking forward to bagging a gobbler beginning next month. The youth season runs April 6 — 12, followed by the statewide season April 13 — May 11.

To help hunters prepare for the season, the NCWRC and NWTF are offering 11 free turkey hunting seminars throughout the state this month. Seminar speakers will cover a wide range of topics, including turkey biology, the use of calls and decoys, selecting the right firearms and ammo, and even cooking techniques.

Walter “Deet” James, the NCWRC hunting heritage biologist, said hunters of all skill levels are welcome to attend. He expects new hunters with little knowledge of turkey hunting to get the most from the clinics.

“Since 2015, the National Wild Turkey Federation has partnered with us to offer these seminars to increase participation in hunting while also maintaining conservation of wildlife and their habitats. Although open to all skill levels, this ‘all-in-one’ seminar is specifically created for those who are interested in turkey hunting, but don’t know how to get started. It’s especially suited for people who lack an existing hunting mentor,” said James.

While the seminars are free, attendees must pre-register by visiting https://www.ncwildlife.org/Learning/Skills-Based-Seminars.
