Three-bearded gobbler had 28+ total inches of beard
North Carolina’s 2020 turkey hunting season ended this past Saturday, May 9. The last day was a first for a young sportsman from Rockingham County.
Youth hunter Asher Lee Satterfield of Reidsville killed a three-bearded gobbler on the last day of North Carolina’s 2020 turkey hunting season. He shot the bird in Caswell County. It was the 6-year-old’s first ever turkey.
The gobbler’s biggest beard was 10 1/2 inches long. Its second-biggest beard measured 9 3/8 inches, and the third beard taped out at 8 1/2 inches. The trophy bird weighed 21 pounds, and sported 1 3/8-inch spurs.
Satterfield used a .410 Stevens 301 by Savage Arms, shooting Federal Premium TSS shells.
