The SCDNR and S.C. Trapping association is holding a coyote trapping workshop Mar. 23-24 at the Webb Wildlife Center.

Extensive, hands-on training being held at Webb Wildlife Center

The SCDNR is teaming up with members of the South Carolina Trappers Association to hold their second Coyote Trapping and Management Workshop at the the Webb Wildlife Center in Hampton County on Mar. 23-24, which is a Wednesday and Thursday.

The site can host a maximum of 30 people, so register early. The workshop costs $100, which includes overnight accommodations at the Webb Wildlife Center, dinner on Wednesday, along with breakfast and lunch on Thursday.

This workshop is in a “real-world” setting, and everyone attending is expected to participate in hands-on training, and will continue no matter what the weather is like. Attendees are not required to have previous training. The workshop will be especially beneficial to people who are eager to learn and get better at trapping coyotes.

Selecting proper equipment, modifying traps, selecting sites, making set, running a trap line, and safety are all topics that will be covered throughout the two-day workshop.

Jay Butfiloski, furbearer project coordinator for the SCDNR, said this workshop is the second one the Department has held, and came about from feedback received at smaller coyote control workshops the agency has held in the past few years.

“This is our second coyote control workshop, and though we offered quite a number of three-hour programs across the state last year, and will continue to do so this year, based on the demand and the feedback from last year’s participants, we have decided to again offer the longer coyote control program,” he said.

The workshop begins a 1 p.m. on the 23rd, and ends at 5 p.m. on the 24th. Click here to register, or call 803-734-3609. Registration will close when 30 people have registered and paid.
