Carrying a raccoon or two out of the swamp is not as easy as placing the animal in the pocket of your game vest.
Since they are larger and heavier than other small-game animals, carrying raccoons requires forethought and preparation.
Veteran hunter David MacCallum made his “coon carrier” from a piece of nylon rope tied in a loop threaded through two pieces of 1/2-inch PVC pipe. The pipe handles prevent the rope from pinching his fingers. The raccoon is placed on the rope, with one side of the rope looped behind its shoulders and the other side in front of its hips. The hunter grabs both PVC handles in one hand to carry the animal with ease. A coon carrier is similar to a firewood carrier, but without the fabric.
