RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 4) – Evin Stanford, a surveys and research biologist with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, has been chosen as the N.C. Bowhunters Association’s wildlife biologist of the year.
“Evin definitely sharpens his pencil when he does research,” said Ramon Bell, president of N.C. Bowhunters Association. “He was instrumental with the introduction of an urban archery deer season in North Carolina. He monitors the deer population throughout the state and makes recommendations beneficial to the health of the herd. He’s a true sportsman himself, going bow and gun hunting. He was the right person for this selection.”
Stanford has been with the Commission since 1998, when he began as assistant small game project leader. He became the Commission’s deer biologist in 2001 and now serves as a surveys and research biologist, primarily focusing on deer and wild turkey.
Stanford has a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and his master’s from Murray State University. He began deer hunting as a bowhunter and remains an avid archery enthusiast.
Stanford will receive the award at the March 29 banquet, part of the activities of the 22nd annual N.C. Bowhunters Association convention, March 28-30, at the Kerr Scott Building at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.
