Russell Cooper made a humorous observation to illustrate how mature bucks react compared to young bucks and does.
“I imagine that if I was nude and had to travel from one location to another and not be seen, what would I do?” he asked. “First, I would travel after dark. If I had to cross a road, I would search for a low spot or a bend so that I could not be seen for a long distance when I crossed. I would follow the cover where two points of cover converge. Lastly, I would travel only in thick cover where possible.”
This is a vivid picture of how mature bucks respond to hunting pressure. The next time you are setting up a stand, keep these points in mind and you might double up on deer or take a mature trophy.
