Hunters should receive deer tags by Aug. 10

The SCDNR said deer tags for the 2022-23 season are on the way to certain hunters with valid South Carolina hunting licenses. They expect hunters to receive their tags by Aug. 10.

Anyone with a current annual or 3-year hunting license and big game permit, or sportsman license is included in the list of folks that should receive their tags soon. Also, lifetime, senior, gratis, disability and Catawba license holders that have received the tags in the past will receive theirs this year, as well as upcoming years. Anyone holding these license types who did not receive deer tags last year, however, must request them.

Youth hunters must still request their free base set of tags each year.

The agency is in the process of mailing out about 200,000 sets of deer tags. They ask hunters who are expecting to receive tags to wait until at least Aug. 10 before inquiring about their tags at 803-734-3833.

Hunters can also receive their tags at SCDNR offices located in Charleston, Clemson, West Columbia, Florence, Aynor and York, beginning on Aug. 8.

SCDNR reminds hunters that all deer killed in South Carolina must be immediately tagged, even before moving them from the point of kill.
