On the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, the SCDNR arrested 19-year-old Samuel Williams of York, S.C. with several alleged wildlife-related crimes. The agency was responding to other York residents who called in reports of hearing gunfire.
The incident happened on Long Leaf Road in York in the early morning hours before sunrise. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a truck parked on the road. They also found a pair of spotted, month-old fawns dead from shotgun wounds.
After interviewing Williams, the officers arrested him. They’ve charged him with illegal night hunting, hunting from a public road, and spotlighting deer.
