Run with the pack on a Dixie hound hunt

Nick Blanton gets ready to put one of his Walker hounds back in its kennel after a hunt at Angola Bay Game Land.

On a typical Saturday at the Bear Garden permit area, as well as with any of the other areas in Holly Shelter or Angola Bay, hound-hunting groups gather at well-known crossroads to go over their hunt plans. The hunters decide which group will start out hunting certain parcels and where the dogs and the deer they are coursing might be headed. The groups may combine to move fluidly with the ebb and flow of the hound music.

Few of the hound-hunting groups are closed to other hunters. On the contrary, most hunters welcome others to join them.
