QDMA Offers Seminar at Howell Woods

Hunters can learn about white-tailed deer from one of the south’s top experts at the Cape Fear Branch QDMA seminar at Howell Woods Learning Center.

The Cape Fear River Branch of Quality Deer Management Association will hold a June 23 white-tailed deer workshop free of charge at Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center.

The seminar will feature Joe Hamilton, certified wildlife biologist and founder of QDMA’s principals of deer management when he was a biologist with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. Hamilton currently heads the REACH program for the southeastern U.S., encompassing QDMA research grants.

Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center is owned by Johnston Community College and is located at 6601 Devils Racetrack Road in Four Oaks.

To reach Howell Woods from Interstate 95 north, take Exit 90 (U.S. 701/N.C. 96) and turn right from the exit ramp and go over the bridge and turn left onto Devils Racetrack Road (SR 1009) just before the Citgo and BP gas stations. From I-95 south, turn left onto N.C. 96 and then almost immediately cross U.S. 701 (at the Citgo and BP gas stations) onto Devils Racetrack Road (SR 1009).  Travel for 8.25 miles on Devils Racetrack Road and the Learning Center entrance is located on the left. Follow the longleaf pine and wax myrtle-lined drive into the parking lot.

Lunch will be provided to all students.
