A buck named Stickers that gave Matthew Neems the slip in 2009, re-appeared in 2010 on his Bushnell trail cam. The Hillsborough, N.C. resident entered the image in the October edition of the NorthCarolinaSportsman.com trail cam contest and won the three-day reader voting competition.Neems wins an official Sportsman Gear prize pack, including a North Carolina Sportsman t-shirt and window decal, plus a year’s subscription to the magazine. The kicker on Stickers is that Neems was able to harvest this same buck on September 27th using his PSE compound bow. The 12-point buck with the big rack produced a gross score of 133 ¼ points for Neems and was 3.5-years old, and this great trail cam photo serves as a great reminder of the anticipation before the hunt.
Neems passed up Stickers about five times during the 2009 bow season, wanting to give him another year to grow, but the buck vanished from his hunting property shortly after the last sighting. Relieved to see him again on his trail cam photos in July of 2010, Neems set out to hunt him again. When he glimpsed the nice buck he noticed that the animal was now limping a bit, even though he appeared healthy and carried a big rack.
“My guess is that he was either hit by a car in 2009, or had been shot and wounded in the rear leg, and that might explain why he went underground so long,” said Neems. “My Bushnell camera is awesome, and it helped me to take another nice buck this year that I may enter in the Bag-A-Buck competition. Now that I have my two-buck limit filled, I will gun hunt for does and coyotes the rest of the way.”
The NorthCarolinaSportsman.com trail cam contest continues to create a buzz among hunting enthusiasts, but remember that only registered users of the website are eligible to win the prizes. The Sportsman staff will select the top three entrants each month, and then allow the readers to vote to determine who is the monthly trail cam contest winner. After the four monthly winners are announced, a one-week voting competition will be held to determine who is the 2010 Grand prize winner.
