Maclin wins NorthCarolinaSportsman.com Dixie Deer Classic Users Choice Award

James Maclin won the first annual NorthCarolinaSportsman.com Dixie Deer Classic User's Choice Award for his 163-inch buck.

James Maclin’s 163 1/8-inch Virginia buck missed being a category winner in the Dixie Deer Classic, but he was redeemed by NorthCarolinaSportsman.com users who voted his deer the site’s Users Choice Award winner.

Maclin, who received 55 percent of the votes, will receive a prize pack of Official Sportsman merchandise.

The buck beat out Ken Tucker’s wild non-typical Anson County deer and Michael Brown’s 166 5/8-inch buck.

Maclin’s deer was killed after the hunter first saw the deer standing in a soybean field last July on the way home from dinner with his wife.

When hunting season began Nov. 15, the avid hunter was determined to kill the big animal.

I wa there every morning and every evening, and I finally got lucky on Dec. 1,” Maclin said.

When the buck stepped out, however, Maclin had to be patient because the deer stood staring in his direction.

“I just kept sitting there waiting and shaking, waiting and shaking, talking to myself,” he said.
