11-point buck in Kriner’s biggest

Jessie Kriner of Central, SC killed an 11-point buck in Anderson County that was picked as the monthly winner of Carolina Sportsman’s December contest.

“This is by far the biggest buck I have ever harvested,” said Kriner.

It’s a buck he had been hunting since the 2024 season.

With limited time to hunt this season, Kriner headed to the woods with the intention of shooting any deer he might see to put some meat in the freezer.

He bumped a few deer on the way in, and almost left.

“I decided to give it 10 minutes to quiet down and do a little rattling,” he said. “I got myself situated and saw a doe move to my left. I hoped a buck was following, and sure enough, there was.”

He shot the buck with his 6.5 PRC rifle, and the deer took off. He let 30 minutes pass before tracking the buck, which he found about 20 yards away from the shot. That’s when he realized it was the buck he’d been after for so long.

“I couldn’t believe what I saw when I walked up to this giant,” he said. “I had no pictures of him in the last 11 months, no sign of him anywhere. But there he was. I just stood there for probably 10 minutes in disbelief. I green-scored the buck at 162 inches, by far my biggest buck, and will most likely stay my biggest buck.”
