Dixie Deer Classic will open this Friday in Raleigh

North Carolina deer hunters are just a few days away from the annual Dixie Deer Classic, scheduled for Friday through Sunday in Raleigh.

Huge outdoor show is in its 34th year bringing deer hunters together

Can the Dixie Deer Classic possibly be 34 years old? Well, it’s difficult to remember a time when North Carolina’s best bucks weren’t on display at the N.C. State Fairgrounds, but the 34th annual Dixie Deer Classic is indeed at hand, scheduled for Feb. 28-March 2 at the fairgrounds in Raleigh, specifically the Jim Graham Building, the Exhibition Building and Dorton Arena.

Hours for the show will be 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.

The big-buck contest, which determines the biggest bucks killed during the 2013-14 season in a variety of categories, will be held on Friday and through 5 p.m. on Saturday. Hunters can bring trophies for scoring after 5 p.m. on Saturday and all day on Sunday, but they will not be eligible for the contest.

Special guests who will do seminars at the show include Lee and Tiffany Lakosky of the Crush television show, biologist C.J. Winand, Joe Teti, the host of Dual Survival on the Discovery Channel, and Team Primos: Kevin Meacham, Keith Burgess, Chris Ashley and Cody Kelley.

In addition, the N.C. State Championship Turkey Calling Contest, a 3-D archery tournament, a Becoming an Outdoor Woman seminar, a trail-cam photo contest and a youth scavenger hunt will be held during the Classic.
