Leupold optics package, blackpowder rifle, hunt make up prize package
Kevin Millwood of Bishopville had quit deer-hunting for a few years before his son, Tyler, got old enough to get interested and pushed him back into the sport.
Last Thanksgiving, Millwood killed a nice 9-point buck on a piece of private property in Lee County, and even though Tyler wasn’t present — he’d broken his foot the week before and was in a cast — he convinced his father to enter the deer in South Carolina Sportsman’s Bag-A-Buck Contest presented by Leupold.
Milwood owes his son big-time, because his entry, “Thanksgiving Treat” was drawn as the grand-prize winner in the contest.
Millwood’s prize package includes a scope, binoculars and rangefinder from Leupold, a blackpowder rifle from Nichols Store in Rock Hill, and a two-person, one-day hunt at Cherokee Run Hunting Lodge in Chesterfield. He will receive his prizes at the Palmetto Sportsman’s Classic in Columbia March 22-24.
Millwood was hunting Thanksgiving morning, and he had turned a Flextone can call over three times at 6:55. The buck appeared at 7:03, and Milwood dropped him with one shot from his .270. “We’d watched this deer for three years, but this was the first time we had a shot at him,” he said.
