Bag-A-Buck 10 Contest Begins

The 2007 Bag-A-Buck contest begins during September and concludes at the end of deer season, Jan. 1, 2008.

The staff of North Carolina Sportsman Magazine hopes our readers are excited about the start of the 2007 white-tailed deer season in North Carolina and are ready to start entering the monthly Bag-A-Buck 10 contests.

We’ll accept entries at our web site, placed through the Bag-A-Buck 10 icon on this home page, or contestants may mail us an entry form taken from the magazine, plus a photo of them and a deer, to:

NC Sportsman Magazine
Bag-A-Buck 10
4103 Bass Mountain Road
Snow Camp NC 27349

Please include a story about how you bagged your deer, number of points on rack, its weight, date killed, weapon used, length of shot, time of day, your age, county of kill, etc., and, if possible, a Boone-and-Crockett green score of the rack (if it’s a buck). We know a 60-day mandatory “drying period” is needed for official B&C scoring. We also will accept photo entries of live deer you may have taken.

All deer entered in Bag-A-Buck 10 must be (a) taken in North Carolina and (b) taken by legal, “fair-chase” hunting methods. Any entry we discover that was taken out-of-state or by illegal means will be disqualified.

Note that we don’t accept entries from previous seasons (2006, for example). That would open up the contest for any year’s deer, which would be unmanageable. We’ve never accepted Bag-A-Buck deer killed in any year except the current, on-going season.

So the Bag-A-Buck 10 contest is only for deer taken in 2007.

Every proper entry will be eligible to win the grand prize. The winner will be chosen at the 2008 Dixie Deer Classic in Raleigh. We also award monthly prizes to monthly winners.

Monthly winners will be selected at the end of each of N.C.’s four deer hunting months (Sept., Oct., Nov. 2007, Dec. 2007-Jan. 1, 2008). However, we have monthly deadlines to meet, so the sooner you enter your deer, the better chance you’ll have to win. Don’t wait until the end of the month to enter Bag-A-Buck 10 if you bagged your deer days or weeks earlier. The cut-off date for accepting monthly entries is the third day of the following month (to allow U.S. Postal deliveries to reach us). For example, the September 2007 monthly contest cut-off entry date is Oct. 3, 2007.

You may enter as many times per month as you wish, but only one entry per month will be considered for that month’s grand prize.

Monthly prizes include a NCS T-Shirt, Bruce Foods Sportsman’s Marinade kit, Tink’s scent kit, Realtree hats and Monster Buck DVD’s, Plano gun case and Leatherman knife. The top individual monthly prizes will vary, from a bow (Sept. 2007 from Brian’s Gun & Tackle of Haw River) to shotguns and rifles for later monthly winners. We reserve the right to substitute prizes of equal value to those noted in our Bag-A-Buck 10 advertisements.

This year’s grand prizes include Steiner binoculars, a Burris scope and a one-person, two-day deer hunt at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge.

Sponsors for Bag-A-Buck 10 prizes include Realtree, Tink’s, Burris, Anderson Creek Hunting Preserve, Leatherman, Springhill Outfitters, Plano, Connecticut Valley Arms, Neuse Sports Shop and Brian’s Gun & Tackle.

So now that the weather has cooled, we hope you’ll have a great deer-hunting season and enter your trophy in Bag-A-Buck 10.
