Youth writers can win cash and opportunities

The South Carolina Outdoor Press Association (SCOPE) is partnering with the Hampton Wildlife Fund and South Carolina Wildlife Magazine to sponsor a South Carolina Youth Outdoor Writing Competition annually, beginning this year.

The competition is open to high school students in grades 9-12. The target audience will be entries from South Carolina, but entries from any state are eligible for the competition.

Entries will be 300- to 500- word articles, with topics to include any outdoor subject that’s presented in a positive manner.

A total of $1000 will be awarded, with First Place winning $500, Second Place winning $300, and Third Place winning $200. All three winners will also be invited to the South Carolina Outdoor Press Association’s annual awards banquet to receive their awards. Plus, the students will receive free SCOPE student memberships for one year.

SCOPE’s Youth Outdoor Writing Contest is open to youth in grades 9-12.

This will also give them a chance to get to know numerous outdoor media members in various fields, including writing, photography, podcasting, social media, as well as producing audio and videos for radio and television outlets.

In addition, the entries will be published on the SCOPE website, and the First-Place winner will be published in the prestigious South Carolina Wildlife Magazine.

Entry forms are available on the SCOPE website at https://scoutdoorpress.com by clicking the Youth Writing Contest link at the top. Entries can be submitted electronically to SCOPE at sc.outdoorpress@gmail.com, or by mail via US Postal Service to the following address:
