Woodard takes BFL with big Jordan bag

Buzz Dunlap and Benny Black of Mt. Gilead sacked 31.02 pounds to win the March 15 NBC Yadkin Division tournament on Badin Lake — the fourth-heaviest stringer in NBC history.

Tony Woodard of Four Oaks captured the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division tournament at Jordan Lake on April 4 with a 5-bass limit weighing 24 pounds; he earned $4,948.

Jeff Coble of Manson placed third with 20-2 and won $1,649; William Blanton of Fayetteville was fourth with 19-12 that paid $1,155; and Brad Staley of Pleasant Garden finished fifth with 19-3 for $990.

Jeff Gerould of Youngsville took the big-fish prize of $755 with a 9-pound, 9-ounce bass.

Rougemont’s Edward Gordan was the top co-angler with 13 pounds, winning $2,474.

Other co-angler finishes were: Eddie Cook of Clemmons, second, with 11-11 for $1,237; Michael Bryant of Thomasville, third, with 10-14 for $824; and Terry Tolar of Elizabethtown, fourth, with 10-6 for $577.

Wendell’s Tim Prevette claimed the co-angler big-fish award of $377 with a 9-pound, 4-ounce bass.

Cline wins at Wylie

Lexington’s Gary Cline won the March 21 Wal-Mart BFL North Carolina Division tournament on Lake Wylie with 22 pounds, 11 ounces; he took home $4,385.

Other top finishers were: Jason Wilson of Bessemer City, second, with 18-15 for $2,193; Dustin Clontz of Albemarle, third, with 17-14 for $1,463; Todd Walters of Greensboro, fourth, with 17-12 for $1,023; and Brian Travis of Conover, fifth, with 17 pounds for $877.

Christopher Guest of Shelby claimed the big-fish award of $620 with a 5-pound, 13-ounce bass.

Leesville’s Jeff Rikard ranked first among the co-anglers with 11-11 and collected $2,193.

Among co-anglers, Andrew Beachley of Charlotte placed second with 11-9 that paid $913; Terry Phillips of Stanley was third with 11-9 and won $913; and Larry Bullard of Wadesboro finished fifth with 11-8 that paid $512.

Scott Stallings won the co-angler big-fish prize of $310 with a 5-pound, 12-ounce bass.

Rigsbee tops Gaston field

Paul Rigsbee of Durham won the March 8 Bassmaster Weekend Series Virginia Division 19 tournament at Lake Gaston. His catch of 16.36 pounds was worth more than $5,000.

Danny Moss of Norlina took the big-fish award of $300 with a 7.13-pound bass.

Michael Stevenson of Bahama topped co-anglers with 8.99 pounds and received $1,374.

Hoover wins at Norman

Roger Hoover of Mooresvsille won the March 21 Bassmaster Weekend Series North Carolina Division 5 tournament at Lake Norman with 13.49 pounds, banking $5,240.

David Wright of Lexington weighed with 11.60 pounds and earned $767 for a third-place finish. Other top finishers were: David Williams of Maiden, fourth, with 11.34 pounds for $537; Ronald Parker, fifth, with 10.41 pounds for $460; Anthony Monaco, sixth, with 10.32 pounds for $422; Willie Davis, seventh, with 9.85 pounds for $383; Mike McMillan of Greensboro, eighth, with 9.41 pounds for $345; and Ralph Hollifield Jr. of Winston-Salem, ninth, with 8.76 pounds for $307.

Sylva woman cashes in

Heather Broom of Sylva finished 20th on the boater side at the March 26-28 Women’s Bassmaster Tour event at Lake Neely Henry, Ala. Her catch of 21-06 paid $677.

Among co-anglers, Michele Gunderman of Gastonia finished 16th, winning $451; and Linda Berry of Madison finished 18th, winning $410.

Pam Martin-Wells of Bainbridge, Ga., took the first-place prize of $55, 820 with 38-10.

Murray headed for nationals

Chuck Murray of Louisburg earned an invitation to the Oct. 28-30 BASS Federation National Championship at the Harris Chain of Lakes, Fla., by winning the April 1-3 Federation Nation Southern Divisional at Lake Gaston with 44-11.

North Carolina placed second in the team competition with 261-07, only five ounces behind the winning team from Alabama.

Tarheels place in BASS

Dustin Wilks of Rocky Mount placed 19th with 37-06, and Guy Eaker of Cherryville finished 47th with 32-06 at the April 2-5 Bassmaster Elite Series Dixie Duel at Lake Wheeler, Decatur, Ala. Each angler won $10,000.

Stokesdale’s Rodney Sorrell placed sixth with 30-13 and received $9,823 at the April 16-18 Bassmaster Northern Open held at the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.
