South Carolina DNR saltwater tournament information program gears up for 2010 season

With tournament season kicking off, it's time to fill out legally-required forms. Tournament organizers also can report their results, providing valuable informaiton to state biologists.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Marine Resources Division is preparing for the 2010 saltwater tournament fishing season, and would like to remind all tournament organizers of the current state regulations.

Several forms are necessary to complete for each tournament. Most importantly, the application for a marine event form must be completed and submitted to SCDNR Law Enforcement 30 days prior to your event.

The application can found at www.dnr.sc.gov/boating/Forms/PDF/Marineeventapp.pdf.

In addition, DNR Office of Fisheries Management is asking tournament organizers to submit tournament results on a voluntary basis to increase the landings data available to fisheries managers for review.

DNR can in return provide tournament organizers with services to better facilitate tournament success, including advertising your tournament dates and contact information on the DNR Fishing Tournament Calendar (https://www.dnr.sc.gov/Calendar/ViewCal.html), and loaning certified scales for your event.

To ensure your saltwater fishing tournament is in compliance with state and federal regulations it is important that you contact the DNR Office of Fisheries Management.
