SC Shellfish harvest opens Oct. 1

Season runs through May 15

South Carolina’s 2025-26 recreational shellfish harvest opens Oct. 1 and runs through May 15. During this season, the harvest of clams and oysters in South Carolina’s coastal waters will be allowed.

The state may close certain shellfish grounds due to hurricanes, major rain, or heavy pollution. Harvesters should always check the interactive map at the SC Dept. of Environmental Services at this link to see temporary closures due to such events.

Recreational harvesters are required to have a Saltwater Recreational Fishing License. The recreational limit is two U.S. bushels of oysters, and one-half bushel of clams in any one day, limited to two calendar days per seven-day period. Harvested clams must be at least an inch thick.
