Rothrock’s big bag wins BFL

Mary Ann and Larry Johnson of Trinity won the May 8 Adam & Eve bass tournament on Tuckertown Lake.

Eric Rothrock of High Point rocked the field with a stunning catch of 23 pounds, 12 ounces to win the May 22 FLW Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division tournament on High Rock Lake. His haul, worth $4,037, was anchored with a 6-pound, 6-ounce bass.

“I caught my fish with jigs and had my limit by 8 a.m.,” said Rothrock, who culled throughout the remaining hours of the event.

Salisbury’s Howard Bean finished second with 21-1 and collected $2,019. Jordan Card of Cary took the third-place prize of $1,345 with 19-06.

Other fishermen from North Carolina who cashed checks were: Terry James of Wadesboro, fourth with 19 pounds for $942; James Blankenship of Lexington, fifth with 18-13 for $807; Todd Harris of Pfafftown, sixth with 18-11 for $740; Sam Mitchiner of Garner, seventh with 17-15 for $673; Ray Griffin of Henderson, eighth with 17-10 for $606; Ricky McCrary of Lexington, ninth with 17-09 for $538; and Bruce Bowman of Winston-Salem, 10th with 17-07 for $471.

Mark Cox of Hiwassee, Va., took the big-fish prize of $545 with a 6-pound, 14-ounce bass.

Durham’s Lee Williams ranked first among co-anglers with 18-10 and collected $1,944. He also captured the co-angler big-fish award of $262 with a 5-pound, 12-ounce bass.

Jamie Baynard of Clayton was third with 13-7 for $649; Jim Nichols of Chapel Hill was fourth with 12-15 for $454 and Dustin Clontz of Albemarle was fifth with 12-13 that paid $389.

Freeze wins BFL

Concord’s Maurice Freeze won the May 15 FLW Bass Fishing League North Carolina Division tournament at High Rock Lake with with a 5-fish catch of 19 pounds, 11 ounces to win the first-place prize of $3,679. He also received a $2,000 bonus for the Ranger Cup and a $1,000 bonus from Evinrude.

High Point’s Michael Hedgecock took the second-place prize of $1,840 with 18-15. Jason Wilson of Bessemer City placed third with 18-05 and collected $1,225.

Kevin and Jeff Chandler, both of New London, ranked fourth and fifth respectively. Kevin had 17-8, winning $859; Jeff had 17-7, winning $736.

Completing the top 10 were: Jeff Hager of Alexis, sixth with 17-5 that paid $675; Darren Gay of Richfield, seventh with 16-10 that paid $613; Wayne Hauser of Mooresville, eighth with 16-4 that paid $552; Brian Stacy of Pulaski, Va., ninth with 16-1 that paid $491 and Robert Walser of Lexington, 10th with 15-15 that paid $429.

Bobby Hunter of Sherrills Ford won the big-fish award of $480 with a 7-pound, 12-ounce bass.

Brad Wright of Granite Falls topped the co-anglers with 16-5 and won $1,840.

Other top co-anglers were: Tim Hawley of Linwood, third with 14-3 for $612; Orlando Giles of Lexington, fourth with 14 pounds for $429 and Bryan New of Belmont, fifth with 13-12 for $366.

Giles claimed the co-angler big-fish prize of $240 with a 6-pound, 2-ounce bass.

Allen wins at Kerr Lake

Junior Allen of Biscoe flipped lizards to win the April 24 Bassmaster Weekend Series Virginia Division tournament at Kerr Lake with 14.14 pounds. He also had the big fish of the day with a 5.06-pound bass. His check was for $3,442.

Rodney Sorrell of Stokesdale placed second with 14.03 pounds and earned $1,531, and Aaron Bussard of Clayton finished third with 13.28 pounds and banked $1,024.

Russell Rigsbee of Timberlake topped co-anglers with 6.75 pounds and won $1,441. Tim Gardner of Goldsboro and Rodney Michael of Eagle Springs tied for second, each weighing in 6.49 pounds and winning $600. Joseph Adams of Four Oaks won the co-angler big fish with a 4.07-pound bass that paid $314.

Gunn places in Kerr Lake BFL

Lawrence Gunn Jr. of Wilson led North Carolina fishermen with a seventh-place finish at the May 15 FLW Bass Fishing League Shenandoah Division event at Kerr Lake. His catch of 11-1 was worth $626.

Aaron Bussard of Clayton tied for 13th with 10-7 and collected $341.

Plenty of BASS money heads home to N.C.

David Wolak of Wake Forest placed 19th with 44-13, and Dustin Wilks of Rocky Mount finished 22nd with 44-8 at the April 29-May 2 Bassmaster Elite Series event on Alabama’s Pickwick Lake. Each angler earned $10,000.

Wolak finished 18th with 60 pounds, and Marty Stone of Fayetteville ranked 29th with 57-14 at the May 6-9 Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on Alabama’s Lake Guntersville They each received $10,000.

High Point’s Pat Golden placed 16th at the May 20-23 BASS Elite Series competition at Clarks Hill Lake, Ga. His catch of 31-06 was worth $10,000.
