Red snapper season is currently closed in SC waters

South Carolina’s DNR officers recently busted a commercial fishing boat with an illegal catch of red snapper. Red snapper season is currently closed for commercial and recreational anglers.

Region 4 officers LCPL Ben Duncan and CO Brandon Cato were performing a routine inspection of a commercial fishing boat in the McClellanville, S.C. area when they found the illegal harvest. They seized 106 pounds of red snapper.

How you can help

The SCDNR appreciates help from the public. You can report fish and game violations through the Operation Game Thief program. The program offers several different methods of reporting. Witnesses to crimes can call, text, use the SCDNR cell phone app, or fill out a form on the agency’s website.
