NC has new record mangrove snapper

15-pound, 3.2-ounce fish is new NC state record

The NC Division of Marine Fisheries has certified a mangrove snapper caught off of Bald Head Island on May 6, 2023 as the new state record for the species.

Adrian Faircloth of Supply, NC caught the fish, which weighed 15 pounds, 3.2 ounces, at Frying Pan Tower. This beat the previous record by almost 3 pounds.

He caught the fish, which was 29.5 inches long and had a girth of 23 inches, on a live Pogy using a Penn International 50W reel spooled with 100-pound braided line.
