Sailfishing on the JOBSITE out of Oregon Inlet
On Season 3, Episode 7 of Carolina ALL OUT, the crew headed offshore of Oregon Inlet aboard the “Jobsite” in search of white marlin. The white marlin weren’t interested that day, but numerous sailfish were, and the crew caught several during the trip.
It was a calm day, making the 50-mile trek an easy one. Expecting white marlin, they were fishing with light tackle, but had some heavier tackle on hand in case a blue marlin showed up. They ran teasers and dredges. These mimic baitballs, which billfish key on in the offshore waters.
None of the teasers or dredges have hooks attached. When a billfish shows itself, the crew brings those rigs in and pitches the real bait to the fish, and if all goes well, the hookup is next.
