New year, new gear

As deer season comes to a close, waterfowl season takes a front seat.

It’s time for boat shows and outdoor expos

If your New Year’s resolution is to stock up on fishing gear, you’ll find plenty of it at the Raleigh Bass & Saltwater Expo, Jan. 13 – 15 at the N.C. State Fairgrounds. And that’s not the only outdoors-related expo to look forward to as deer season ends and the winter doldrums keep many sportsmen out of the woods and off the water for the next couple of months.

This show is just the beginning of numerous shows and expos throughout the Carolinas, culminating in March with the Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic.

These shows feature plenty of gear, but that’s not all they’ve got. Seminars related to fishing for specific species and hunting for numerous game animals are also a big part of these shows. It’s a great time to pick up some useful tips that will help you get the most of the new gear that Santa brought you, along with the goods you pick up at one of these shows.

When it comes to gear, you’ll find everything you can think of, and plenty that you wouldn’t, to fill every nook and cranny of your outdoor needs. Fishing gear, boats and boating gear, hunting equipment, truck accessories, clothing, cooking supplies and equipment, wild game calls, knives, etc, will all be available from a number of vendors.

Adam Floyd, Jr. of Louisburg, NC caught this albino catfish while fishing his granddad’s pond.

Outfitters from all over the world will also be on hand to sign you up for that hunting or fishing trip-of-a-lifetime.

These shows also offer a great opportunity to renew your Carolina Sportsman Magazine subscription. Like last year, we’ll be giving away a Yeti cooler to someone who signs up or renews their subscription at each show we attend.
