Sawrie family’s Hilton Head redfish trip

redfish

While visiting Hilton Head island over Thanksgiving week my son and I caught a lifetime Redfish out of Sprunt Pond in the Sea Pines lagoon system. On Nov. 21 my son and I were fishing in a pond behind one of the golf courses when a 22 inch redfish hit a mud minnow on a road that I had put down on the bank. THe rod was pulled into the water and disappeared! My son was able to cast out with an artificial off the bottom and somehow snag the rod. When we retrieved the rod the red was still on the line! The next day (Nov. 22) we were fishing in Sprunt Pond In Sea Pines Hilton Head using live mud minnows, light tackle consisting of 15lb braid and 15 lb test fluorocarbon leader. We somehow managed to land this 48 inch 35lb Redfish after a 25 minute fight, in which I was almost spooled, without a net! This fish was caught on the same rod that was pulled in the water the day before! It was a great fight, great story and a lifetime fish for pond/lagoon system.
