Plunder kings like a ‘Pirate’

A ‘Pirate Plug’ is effectively a harness that allows dead baits to be trolled effectively.

King mackerel and dolphin are suckers for fast-moving, colorful lures and baits. The South Chatham Tackle “Pirate Plug” offers anglers an easy way to plunder the Atlantic’s fishy riches using dead cigar minnows or ballyhoos as bait.

The lure’s forward-angled, weighted “chin” acts as a diving plane to keep the bait running below the surface and harnesses gravity to keep the baitfish swimming in an upright position. The Pirate Plug’s skirt covers the baitfish’s mouth to prevent it from washing out under hydraulic pressure. This allows trolling at higher speeds than are possible when using a live baitfish hooked on a flimsier. The Pirate Plug can be bought unrigged or prerigged, complete with a nose hook, cable and treble hooks.
