Cart ’em away by the bushel

A pier cart, store-bought or homemade, helps tote gear onto the pier and coolers full of delicious spot back out.

While some anglers may carry all the spots they want home in a plastic pail, dedicated pier fishermen use fishing carts, such as this Angler’s Fish-N-Mate Pier Cart.

Some anglers make their own carts using wheels robbed from other rolling objects such as bicycles. Others convert wheelbarrows and kids’ wagons to pier duty.

A wheeled cart helps anglers carry everything they need including rods, rigs, bait, beverages, ice, clothing and folding chairs or stools. They also ferry big ice chests to the fish-cleaning station or back to the car in a single trip back down the pier. Even something as simple as a wheeled ice chest is an asset because a cooler filled to the top with ice and spots is mighty heavy to carry, even for a pair of adult fishermen.
