Organization has donated more than $4.7 million to SCDNR
The Hampton Wildlife Fund (HWF) has presented the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources’ (SCDNR) Law Enforcement Division with two fully enclosed 8×16-foot cargo trailers to support the work of the agency and its wildlife conservation officers. Each trailer highlights a variety of SCDNR programs and other initiatives supported by the Fund, combining photographic displays with scenes of hunting, fishing, and other natural resource–based activities. Three sides of each trailer include a QR code that directs viewers to the Fund’s website for more information about its mission and supported programs.
The Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization that partners with SCDNR to advance natural resource conservation and education across South Carolina. The Fund’s support is generated entirely through private donations, promotional efforts, and fundraising events. While HWF contributes to selected SCDNR projects, its funds do not replace any programs already backed by state or federal dollars.
“Hampton Wildlife Fund has proudly supported the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources since our founding in 1981,” said HWF Executive Director BeBe Dalton Harrison of Mount Pleasant. “Over the years, we have contributed more than $4.7 million to strengthen the agency’s educational and outreach initiatives.”
“Our mission is to provide financial and other support to SCDNR—our state’s dedicated stewards of South Carolina’s wildlife and natural resources—and to stand alongside them in their educational work,” said HWF Board Chair Alvin Taylor, of Hollywood. “We hope these trailers help showcase the ways we collaborate with the agency as it works to teach the public, especially young people, about the importance of conservation.”
Education remains one of the Fund’s principal priorities. HWF annually awards scholarships to South Carolina students attending in-state colleges or universities and pursuing degrees in wildlife, fisheries, forestry, biology, zoology, marine science, environmental science, or related fields. Additional scholarships are awarded each year in law enforcement/criminal justice and journalism. Since 1995, the Hampton Wildlife Fund has provided nearly $1.2 million in scholarships to students across the state.
Projects supported and funded by the Hampton Wildlife Fund and featured on the trailers include:
