Lehew, Richardson post big victories

Charlotte’s Shane Lehew won the Sept. 26-27 Walmart BFL’s North Carolina Division Super Tournament with a 2-day catch of 22 pounds, 6 ounces, winning $5,270.Lehew, 20, fished sea walls and rock banks early with buzzbaits and Pop-Rs and later hit the docks to catch his fish.

Other top finishers included: Jeff Hager of Alexis, second with 21-4 for $2,635; Todd Walters of Greensboro, third with 20-8 for $1,758; Maurice Freeze of Concord, fourth with 19-14 for $1,230; and Andy Montgomery of Blacksburg, S.C., fifth with 19-9 for $1,054.

Taylorsville’s Michael Parent took the big-fish prize of $675 with a 4-pound, 9-ounce bass.

John Wilson of Hazelwood topped the co-anglers with 13-14 and received $2,635.

Travis Ruff of Connelly Springs, placed second among co-anglers with 13-4 for $1,317; Scott Stallings of Kannapolis took third with 12-8 and won $880; and Gus Jones of Bostic finished fourth with 12-6 for $615.

High Point’s Michael Miller had the co-angler big fish with a 4-pound, 14-ounce bass and won $337.11.

Richardson wins at Gaston

Kernersville’s Joel Richardson won the Sept. 24-26 Stren Series Northern Division tournament at Lake Gaston with a 3-day catch of 36-9.

Richardson, who guides on Gaston and Kerr (Buggs Island) lakes, took home a check for $15,058 and a fully-rigged Ranger bass boat.

Gastonia’s Chris Baumgardner finished third with 33-4 and won $4,815, and Billy Bledsoe of Fayetteville took fifth with 29-10 and banked $3.612

Charles Gandee of Efland topped the co-anglers with 20 pounds, 14 ounces and won a Ranger boat.

Co-angler Phil Jarmon of Apex placed third with 18-14 and won $1,996.

Other notable finishes

• High Point’s Pat Golden placed 46th at the Sept. 24-26 Bassmaster Northern Open tournament at Lake Erie. His catch of 19-04 was worth $297.

• Co-angler John Cook of Matthews placed second at the Oct. 3-4 Walmart BFL South Carolina Division Super Tournament on Lake Hartwell, Seneca, S.C. His catch of 12-9 paid $822. Charles Wood of Thomasville won the co-angler big-fish award with a 4-pound, 10-ounce bass worth $304.

• Monica Altman of Angier placed first among co-anglers at the Oct. 16-18 Academy Sports & Outdoors Bassmaster Women’s Tour event at Cypress Black Bayou Lake in Shreveport-Bossier City, La. Her catch of 27 pounds even paid $43,250. Judy Wong of Many, La., took the first-place prize of $60,000 in the pro division with 36-10.

• Heather Broom of Sylva placed first among the co-anglers with 10 pounds, 15 ounces, and won $2,880 at the Sept. 26-27 Walmart BFL Savannah River Division tournament on Georgia’s Clarks Hill Lake.
