Wright captures BFL at Kerr Lake

Lexington’s David Wright won the April 22 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League North Carolina Division tournament at Kerr Lake. His five-fish catch of 18-03 paid $4,046.He also received $1,000 as the highest-placing Ranger Cup contestant.

Completing the top-five boaters were Ricky Roten of Millers Creek, second with 16-07 for $2,023; Cliff Kirby of Catawba, third, with 16-06 for $1,348; Hank Cherry of Charlotte, fourth, with 16-00 for $944; and Jerry Lucas of Raleigh, fifth, with 15-10 for $809.

David Williams of Maiden took the boater big-fish prize of $555 with a 5-pound, 9-ounce bass.

John Allen of Concord topped the Co-angler Division with 15-15 and received $1,944.

The other top finishers among the co-anglers were Ellis Bumgarner of Granite Falls, second, with 13-15 that paid $972; Mark Hicks of Wake Forest, third, with 13-11 that paid $649; Steve Cannon of Wilkesboro, fourth, with 12-10 that paid $454; and Larry Halsey of Pfafftown, fifth, with 12-01 that paid $389.

Hicks also earned $262 as the big bass co-angler winner.

Britt Myers of Mt. Holly and Kevin Langill of Terrell placed in the top 20 at the May 4-7 Bassmaster Elite Series Pride of Augusta tournament at Clarks Hill Reservoir, Ga.

Myers ranked 15th with 39-13 and won $10,600; Langill finished 17th with 39-06 and received $10,500.

Skyland’s Gary Abernathy placed second among the co-anglers with 21-11 and earned $25,000.

Mike Kirkley of Charlotte placed 23rd with 14-00 that paid $900.

Davy Hite of Ninety-Six, S.C., won the top prize of $100,000 with 71-12.

Randleman’s Mike McDonald topped the field at the May 6 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Shenandoah Division tournament at the Potomac River. His catch of 19-15 was worth $5,133.

Flash Butts of Roanoke Rapids finished third with 19-04 and received $2,566.

Mike Goodman of Nebo placed 58th with 10-13 and won $450 at the May 11-13 Bassmaster Southern Tour event at Lake Eufaula, Ala.

In the non-boater division, R.T. Boone of Morganton finished seventh with 12-01 and earned $1,380. Wayne Hauser of Winston-Salem ranked 13th with 10-08 and banked $644.

Lexington’s David Fritts placed fourth with 29-04 and received $20,000 at the May 10-13 Wal-Mart FLW Tour event at Kentucky Lake.
