Woods edges Anderson in ABA

Jeff Woods of Waterloo won the ABA Division 96 tournament on Clarks Hill and caught the biggest fish of the day, this 6.02-pound bass.

Jeff Woods of Waterloo won the first American Bass Anglers Division 96 tournament of the season on Clarks Hill Lake in mid-July, edging Phillip Anderson of Saluda by less than an ounce.

Woods brought in a 5-bass limit that weighed 11.56 pounds, including the big fish of the tournament, a 6.02-pound lunker.

Anderson, the 2010 Angler of the Year for the division, finished with a 5-fish limit that weighed 11.53 pounds.

Don Kneece of Saluda finished third with a 5-fish limit that weighed 11.10. Phil Morris of Saluda was fourth with 9.75, and Alex Dziengiecewski of Aiken was fifth with 26.67 pounds.

Berringers win on Hartwell

D.J. and Derril Bessinger of Greenville won the Open Benefit Bass Tournament on Lake Hartwell on June 26.

The father-and-son team had 14.05 pounds and the big fish of 4.18 pounds to win a total of $1,140.

Dr. Barton Aiken and Jeff Rohaley of Greenville had 13.13 pounds and finished second. Mark Waller and Waller Cane of Hartwell, Ga., finished third with 12.84 pounds.

Proceeds from the tournament went to Eric Petrus, who has been battling cancer for nine years.

Wolak wins on Champlain

Dave Wolak of Wake Forest, N.C., won the 3-day Bassmaster Northern Open on Lake Champlain out of Plattsburgh, N.Y., July 22-24.

Wolak won with a 3-day total of 54 pounds, one ounce for a $51,000 paycheck.

Ryan Said of Wixom, Mich., finished second with a 3-day total of 53 pounds. Tracy Adams of Wilkesboro, N.C., finished third with 52-4. Ish Monroe of Hughson, Calif., finished fourth with 52 pounds, and Mike Haggerty of Hendersonville, Tenn., finished fifth with 51 pounds, 15 ounces.

Jason Quinn of York was the highest finishing pro from South Carolina. Quinn wound up in 24th place with 47 pounds, three ounces. Marty Robinson of Lyman fished two days, and finished thirty-third with 31 pounds, five ounces. Casey Ashley of Donalds fished two days and finished fifty-seventh with 28 pounds, 15 ounces.
