Viking 72 catches 564.1-pound blue marlin in day 5 of Big Rock

Viking 72 brought this blue marlin to the scales on day 5 of the Big Rock Tournament.

36 total billfish released in day 5 of Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament

Day 5 of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament was a big one. It concluded with a total of 36 total billfish released, and two blue marlins brought to the scales. A spearfish was also released.

Viking 72, captained by Ryan Higgins, brought the biggest blue marlin of the day to the scales. Drew McDowell did the angling honors on the beast, which, on top of being the day’s biggest, is the third largest blue marlin weighed so far in the 2016 Big Rock tournament.

Dawg Catcher hauled the other blue marlin to the scales on day 5, a 551.5 pounder.

14 blue marlin were released on day 5, by the following boats: Rascal, Box Office, Blue Eyes, Viking 72, Wraith, Saga, Carterican, Islander, Compromise, Pig Rig, Gryphon, Carolina Time, Qualifier, and Bank Walker.

These boats all released a white marlin: Mister Pete, Artemis, Sea Creature, Sandra D, Royal Flush, Magic Moment, Obsession, Run-Off, Team Animal House, Energizer, James Joyce II, Let It Ride, Haphazard, and J&B.

The eight sailfish were released by Pop A Top, Accordingly IV, Deep End, We III, Bizzy B, Rascal, Run-Off, and Starling Marine.

Huntress released the spearfish.

With one day of fishing left, the leaderboard looks like this –
