South Carolina anglers finish 1-2 in BLF at High Rock

Jeff Jennings of Rock Hill, S.C., won the BFL Piedmont Division tournament on High Rock last weekend with a 20-pound, 1-ounce catch.

Jennings takes top spot with 20-1, worth $3,545

Two fishermen from the “other” Carolina, Jeff Jennings of Rock Hill, S.C., and Randy Childers of Anderson, S.C., finished in the top two spots at the July 13 Walmart BFL Piedmont Division tournament at High Rock Lake.

Jennings topped the field of 89 anglers with a 5-fish catch that weighed 20 pounds, one ounce. He flipped “all over the lake” and won $3,545.

Childers used jigs and black worms to take his second-place catch of 19 pounds, eight inches, which was worth $1,773.

Kevin Chandler of New London tied Scott Threadgill of Troy for third place with 18-8; each fishermen received $1,004. Threadgill’s haul was anchored with a 6-pound, 11-ounce bass, the second-biggest fish of the day.

Other high finishers were: Jarrett Freeze of Rockwell, fifth with 17-10 for $709; Steve Sink of Winston-Salem, sixth with 17-6 for $650; and Scott Guyot of Wagram, seventh with 17-4 for $591. Guyot also took the big-fish prize of $445 with a 6-pound, 12-ounce bass.

Completing the top 10 were: Ray Griffin of Henderson, eighth with 17-3 for $532; Eric Moser of Salisbury, ninth with 16-9 for $473; and Jeff Queen of Catawba, 10th with 16-3 for $414.

Butner’s Marty Daniel ranked first among the co-anglers with 12-15, squeaking past Greg Deal of China Grove, who had 12-13. Daniel won $1,773; Deal, $886. Wayne Austin of High Point won the co-angler big-bass award of $222 with a 5-pound, 12-ounce bass.
