Raleigh anglers win at Lake Hickory

Ronnie Smith holds two largemouth bass, part of the 17.32-pound total he and Mitch Drew landed to top the field at the Sept. 16 High Rock Team Tournaments event.

Chad Craven of Raleigh and Tommy Farley of Colonial Heights, Va., won the Oct. 6-7 Stratos Owners’ Tournament Trail World Championship at Old Hickory Lake, Gallatin, Tenn. The two fishermen had a two-day catch totaling 21 pounds and won a 2007 Stratos Stratos 210 Pro XL boat with a 200-hp Evinrude E-TEC motor.

Brent Long of Catawba and Ricky Shumpert of Lexington, S.C., finished second with 19-14 and earned $4,650.

Boater Hank Cherry of Charlotte won the Sept. 30-Oct. 1 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League South Carolina Super Tournament at Lake Wylie with 26-01 and received $6,574 plus a $1,500 bonus for the winner of the Ranger Cup.

Other scores were Long, third, with 24-09 that paid $2,193; and Eric Weir of Belmont, fourth, with 24-07 that paid $1,534.

Chris Carroll of Kings Mountain took the Boater Division big-bass award of $930 with a 5-pound, 1-ounce fish.

Among the co-anglers, Jackie Reilly of China Grove placed second with 10-12 and banked $1,587, and John Allen of Concord ranked fourth with 9-03 and collected $741.

Concord’s Tom Turner won the co-anglers big-bass prize of $442 with a 4-pound, 9-ounce fish.

Brandon Gray of Bullock finished second at the Sept. 30-Oct. 1 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Shenandoah Division Super Tournament at the Potomac River, Va. His catch of 33-04 was worth $3,947.

Two High Point fishermen finished in the money at the Oct. 5-7 Bassmaster Northern Tour event at Lake Erie, Sandusky, Ohio.

Pat Golden placed 16th with 23-00 and banked $2,023.50, and Royce Madden finished 37th with 13-11 and received $941.
