Wicker, McGlohorn dominate Thursday night tournament

Andy Wicker and Dan McGlohorn of Pomaria dominated the Lake Monticello Thursday Night Tournament on July 11, bringing 18.2 pounds to the scales, winning by more than 4 pounds, and collecting $250.

The winners’ secret was going deep.

“We caught them on five or six different lures. They are biting pretty much everything, as long as you can get it down where they are hanging out,” Wicker said.

Wicker and McGlohorn caught their fish on jigs, worms, drop shots, spinnerbaits, spoons and deep-diving crankbaits. They focused on points and humps in 15 to 20 feet of water and also found a few fish 35 to 40 feet deep.

“Without good electronics, you would just ride right over excellent fishing spots without even knowing they are there,” Wicker said said.

Daniel Cook of Sumter and DJ McEachern of Columbia finished second ith 13.12 and took home $75, followed by Mike Weaver and Melvin Carr, who brought 10.12 to the weigh-in for third place.
