Parker, Fleming win seniors tournament on Lake Murray

Skip Parker of Laurens and Burl Fleming of Columbia won the Aug. 10 Lake Murray Seniors tournament.

Sixteen-pound limit wins on tough night for field

Skip Parker of Laurens and Columbia’s Burl Fleming were one of only six teams that brought a five-fish limit to the scales of the Aug. 10 Lake Murray Seniors Fishing Tournament, and they won the contest by one pound

Their 17.10-pound catch included the big fish of the tournament, a 6.2-pounder on what proved to be a tough day of fishing for most of the teams. They took home $196 for their victory.

The second-place team of Columbia’s Randy Fulmer and Richard Garrick won $94, weighing in five fish at 16.10 pounds. Rick Laha and Eddie Sloop of Prosperity finished third with a limit that weighed 13.65 pounds, good for $80.

David Castleberry of Columbia and Marion Maner of Lexington took fourth with four fish weighing 10.65 pounds, worth $75. Columbia’s Marvin Brown and Billy Howell weighed in three chunky bass for 9.4 pounds, winning $68. Their catch topped the weight of three teams that brought limits to the scales.

The South Carolina Parks and Recreation Dept. will host the inaugural Bream Buddy Tournament on August 31 at Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site. Teams will consist of one adult and one child under the age of 12, and prizes will go to teams with most bream, biggest bream, and smallest bream. It is the only day of the year fishing is allowed at the park. To register, visit www.southcarolinaparks.com.
