Moser wins High Rock BFL tourney

Eric Moser of Salisbury cranked his way to victory at the June 16 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League N.C. Division tournament at High Rock Lake.

His five-fish catch of 15 pounds, 12 ounces was taken with a green crankbait and paid $4,177.

Other Tar Heels who finished well included Daniel Funderburk of Rockwell, second, with 14-10 for $2,458; Mike Miller of Sophia, third, with 13-08 for $1,640; Chuck Douthit of Mooresville, fourth, with 13-07 for $1,147; and R.W. Hutson of Mount Airy, fifth, with 12-12 for $983.

Marcus Taylor of Winston-Salem took the big-fish award of $750 with a 6-pound, 11-ounce bass.

Kyle Whisnant of Iron Station topped the Co-angler Division with 12-11 and won $2,458.

Other co-angler scores included Stacy Metz of Staley, second, with 12-03 for $1,229; Jamie Denison of Winston-Salem, third, with 12-01 for $817; Chris Chimiak of Winston-Salem, fourth, with 9-11 for $573; and Donnie Floyd of Lexington, fifth, with 9-07 for $492.

Whisnant also took big bass honors among co-anglers with a 6-pound, 4-ounce bass worth $375.

Denver’s Pat Tierney tied Nobel Willits of Altamonte Springs, Fla., for first place at the June 6-8 BASS Federation Nation Southern Divisional at Lake Eufaula, Ala.

Each angler had 29 pounds, 8 ounces, but Willits was declared the winner because he caught more keepers over the three-day event.

The tie breaker was a moot point since Willits and Tierney joined five other fishermen as state leaders in the event and qualified for the 2008 BASS Federation national championship.

The 12-man Alabama team won the event with 201-7 with the North Carolina team placing second with 140-2.

Jeffrey O’Connor of Charlotte ranked sixth among the co-anglers and won $4,000 at the May 31-June 1 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League All-American at the Ohio River.

Stacy Metz of Staley earned $3,000 for his eighth-place finish.

Boater Shonn Goodwin of Moore, Okla., took the top prize of $100,000 with a three-day catch of 16-01.

Carl Williams Jr. of Bessemer City caught the big fish of the day in the Boater Division at the May 12 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League South Carolina Division event at Santee Cooper, S.C.

The 8-pound bass earned $645 for Williams.

Khris Williams of Mt. Holly won the Balls Creek Jr. Bassmasters tournament held during June at Lake James. His 3-pound bass also took the big-fish award. Brett Barlowe of Hickory finished second with a fish weighing slightly more than 2 pounds.

David Wolak of Wake Forest took the 12th-place prize of $12,300 with 47-14 at the June 7-10 Bassmaster Elite Blue Ridge Brawl at Smith Mountain Lake, Va.

Linden’s Marty Stone placed 32nd with 32-07 and won $10,000.

Among the co-anglers, Fred Harris of Raleigh finished 14th with 16-14 and won $750; Ron Parks of Lexington ranked 26th with 12-13 and received $500.

Denver’s Michelle Armstrong finished ninth with 26-04 and won $1,500 at the June 14-16 Women’s Bassmaster Tour at Kentucky-Barkley lakes, Gilbertsville, Kentucky.

Lucy Mize of Ben Lomond, Ark., won the event with 40-02 and collected $50,000.

Dave Wolak of Wake Forest and Pat Golden of High Point earned checks at the June 14-16 Bassmaster Central Open at the Red River, Shreveport, La.

Wolak placed 11th with 27-00 and won $3,500; Golden ranked 13th and received $2,500 plus a $1,000 bonus for the big fish on Day 3 that weighed 5 pounds, 10 ounces.
