Moser takes title at High Rock

Salisbury’s Eric Moser won the Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament with 15.35 pounds, a catch bolstered by these two quality bass.

Salisbury’s Eric Moser topped a field of 56 anglers with 15.35 pounds and collected $5,000 at the June 7 Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament at High Rock Lake.Moser probed channel drops with deep-diving crankbaits to catch his five-fish limit and had a limit by 11:30 a.m..

Ralph Hollifield of Winston-Salem placed second with 14.77 pounds and earned $257.

Other scores were Thomas L. Williams of Durham, third, with 14.44 pounds for $838; Randy Childers of Anderson, S.C., fourth, with 14.42 pounds for $587; David Wright of Lexington, fifth, with 14.09 pounds for $503; Brian Bailey of Austinville, Va., sixth, with 13.71 pounds for $461; Darren Gay of Richfield, seventh, with 13.28 pounds for $419; Chris Baldwin of Lexington, eighth, with 13.08 pounds for $377; Doug Young of Salisbury, ninth, with 13.02 pounds for $335; and Roger Pope of Statesville, 10th, with 12.82 pounds for $251.

Phil Maness of Salisbury took the big-fish award of $280 with a 7.13-pound bass.

Robert Green of Sedalia ranked first among the co-anglers with 10.13 pounds and received $1,228.

Other co-angler scores were Chris Fabrizio of Kernersville, second, with 8.77 pounds for $614; Thomas McDermott of Madison, third, with 8.43 pounds for $409; Ricky Scott of Concord, fourth, with 8.22 pounds for $286; and Richard Outlaw of Mooresville, fifth, with 7.90 pounds for $225.

Larry Halsey of Pfafftown won the co-angler big-fish prize of $133 with a 5.84-pound bass.

Danny Wicker of Hillsboro took the first-place award of $3,531 with 18.08 pounds at the May 17 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Shenandoah Division tournament at the Potomac River, Woodbridge, Va.

Durham’s Christopher Burns ranked fourth with 17-03 and collected $970.

James Bradfield of Raleigh finished third among the co-anglers with 15-01 and received $691.

Greg Lineberry of Creedmoor won the May 10 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division tournament at Lake Gaston. He received $4,016 for his catch of 15-06 plus $695 for the big fish of the day with a 5-pound, 12-ounce bass. He also won the Ranger contingency bonus of $708.

Flash Butts of Roanoke Rapids placed third with 14-15 and banked $1,574.

Calvin Jones topped the co-anglers with 13-14 and won $2,360. He also took the big-fish award of $347 with a 5-pound, 3-ounce bass.

Ronnie Jenkins of Wake Forest finished second with 10-05 and collected $1,180. Joe Dunn of Fuquay-Varina ranked fifth with 9-07 and won $471.

Dave Wolak of Wake Forest ended 10th and earned $14,500 at the May 15-18 Bassmaster Elite Series Carolina Clash at Lake Murray, S.C. He banked an additional $1,000 for catching a 6-pound, 8-ounce bass, the big fish for Day 2.

Dustin Wilks of Rocky Mount placed 27th with 38-03 and received $10,000.

Denver’s Michelle Armstrong placed 18th at the May 22-24 Women’s Bassmaster Tour event at Lake Henry Neeley, Gasden, Ala. Her catch of 16.11 pounds paid $875.

Ray Griffin of Henderson finished 10th at the May 29-31 Wal-Mart All American at Lake Hamilton near Hot Springs, Ark. His catch of 17-06 paid $14,000.

Shayne Berlo of Vienna, Va., won the first-place prize of $100,000 with 20-12.

Wolak had another payday at the June 5-8 Southern Challenge Bassmaster Elite Series tournament at Wheeler Lake, Decatur, Ala. He earned $1,000 for a 7-pound, 10-ounce bass, the big fish of the opening round, and collected $10,650 for placing 14th with 41-02.

Marty Stone of Linden placed 27th with 38-03; Wilks ranked 42nd with 33-15; and Pat Golden of High Point claimed 45th with 32-10. They each received $10,000.

Two Tar Heel co-anglers received checks at the June 14 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League South Carolina Division tournament at Lake Wateree, S.C.

Steve Spivey of Whiteville placed second with 15-08 and earned $951. Clyde Whiteside of Forest City ranked fifth with 11-12 and won $380.

Franklinton’s Brian Bowers finished fifth at the June 14 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division event at the Chickahominy River, Williamsburg, Va. His catch of 11-07 paid $658.

Stacy Metz of Staley placed first among the co-anglers with 13-03 and received $1,796.

Other co-angler scores were Brad Zeigler of Sanford, second, with 9-14 for $888; Waylon Brown of Elm City, third, with 9-09 for $598; and Randy Clark of Staley, fifth, with 9-05 for $419.

Ben Dewit of Edenton took the co-angler big-fish prize of $230 with a 4-pound, 4-ounce bass.
